The cuisine at Old Taro is a celebration of bold, comforting flavors, particularly their much-loved noodle dishes. The 紅燒牛肋骨麵 (Braised Beef Rib Noodle Soup), priced at $18.95, is a must-try. As one reviewer noted, the soup here is intensely flavorful — rich, aromatic, and balanced perfectly with tender chunks of beef rib and a unique noodle texture that strikes a satisfying al dente note for those who love a bit of bite. Even variations featuring tripe impress with their delicate tenderness, and the soup’s depth of flavor lingers pleasantly on the palate.
For rice lovers, the 焢肉飯 (Braised Pork Rice) at $14.95 offers a hearty, soul-satisfying meal with succulent pork that melts in your mouth alongside fragrant rice. The kitchen also showcases seasonal specials like the 麻油土雞鍋 (Sesame Oil Chicken Hotpot) at $36.95, which is only available for ordering before the last 30 minutes of service — adding a sense of exclusivity to this warming dish, especially enticing during cooler months.
Beyond their savory mainstays, Old Taro shines with delightful touches like their notably crispy, non-greasy pan-fried buns, which satisfy with a golden crunch and subtle flavor — perfect as a snack or accompaniment. And for those with a sweet tooth, the dessert selection, such as tofu mixed with taro balls and the distinctive black tea blended with soy milk, offers a refreshing, authentic finish that many patrons find utterly delightful.
Old Taro’s appeal goes beyond just the food: reviewers consistently highlight not only the generous portions and fresh ingredients but also the fast, friendly service enhanced by modern conveniences like QR code ordering at the table. The space’s clean, slick decor paired with warm hospitality creates an inviting ambiance that encourages guests to relax and savor each bite.
Whether you’re craving a robust, spicy beef noodle soup, softly tender tripe, or comforting rice dishes teeming with rich Taiwanese flavors, Old Taro delivers with authenticity and heart. It’s a must-visit spot in Fremont for anyone eager to explore genuine Chinese cuisine presented with care and creativity.
Spicy beef noodle with tripe - it's not that spicy but enjoyable. The soup is very flavorful and the thick noodle has a bit of texture if you like al dente texture. Tripe and beef is very tender. Noodle with tripe - tender tripe, soup is flavorful, the thin noodle is soft but not soggy. I like the soft noodle even I usually like al dente. Pan fried bun - very crispy, not too oily. Good amount of meat and veggies inside but unlike Shanghainese pan fried bun, it's got no soup inside. Still, taste pretty good. For a bowl of noodle soup, I think this is a great place.
Good spicy beef noodle soup, full of flavor and beef chunks.
Spacious interior with lots of Taiwanese knickknacks decorating the place. They do NOT have rice balls anymore so I was slightly disappointed. Got beef soup noodles, fried taro and radish pastry. All were quite delicious. Only thing I'd say is beef soup noodles was too soy-saucey.
I know this place is famous for the Taiwanese beef noodle soup , but I actually more enjoy their dessert, like black tea mixed with soy milk , tofu with taro ball ! *Tofu dessert is seasonal .
One of the best Taiwanese restaurants in Fremont! The food was generously portioned and very fresh. Everything I've had here has always hit the spot; my favourites definitely being the sausage bento and beef noodle soup. The staff is friendly and the service is pretty quick, and ordering is done via a QR code at your table. The decor is quite slick and there's some nice artwork on the wall providing some great ambiance. Highly recommend coming here!
Classic family owned Taiwanese restaurant that offers a lot savory pastry to-go. Their traditional noodle soups has well cooked noodle with the "QQ" texture and big serving size. However, the soup flavor is very average. The food serves quickly and the service is very friendly. Cute amateur-like decor with a lot of seatings. You order via QR code and pay cash/card. They do offer a "pay with cash" discount. Plenty of free parking in the plaza. Expect to pay $25-30 per person. I wouldn't mind coming back, I'm just not in a rush to. I recommend checking it out if you want a quick meal to curb your Taiwanese cravings.
Loved everything here! Super authentic and everything was fresh. The beef noodle soup had thick and chewy noodles and the mochi came out warm and soft. The cabbage in pork stew and pork buns were so delicious too. I took the spicy peanuts home and finished them the next day.
